FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Five U.S. Free Divers Set to Make History with First Appearance in
CMAS Freediving World Championships in Kaş, Turkey this October

Kaş, Turkey, September 25, 2018: The United States Freediving Federation (USFF) will make

history this October as Team America travels to Kaş, Turkey and competes in the CMAS

Freediving World Championships, marking the first ever U.S. appearance at this Olympic-style

event.

"I’m truly honored to be a part of the US Freediving Team. We'll be the first to represent the

and attend the CMAS Freediving World Championship, and I couldn't be more proud of

everyone's hard work” says Renee Blundon of Team America. “I hope this event inspires more

people in the US about the sport of freediving. We want to pave the path for others to aspire to

participate in these incredible international competitions."

Team America will compete against 120+ athletes from more than 50 countries over the course

of a week. The five USFF athletes hope to break recently established national records from the

Hawaii Cup of Freediving this past August. That event was the first CMAS sanctioned national

championship hosted by the USFF in the United States.

As many discuss whether freediving will officially join the Olympic roster in either 2024 Paris or

2028 Los Angeles, the USFF points to their involvement with events like the Hawaii Cup and the

Freediving World of Championships as indicators of the growing momentum towards making that

hope a reality.

“We could not be more excited to represent the United States at the Freediving World

Championships for the first time in history. The support for this movement has been incredible;

we actually raised more than $7,500 to help cover some of the costs in sending them over to Kaş

to compete” says Jeremy Stephan, President of the USFF. “Team America’s appearance in this

international event is driving awareness and recognition for this unique sport. Freedivers in the

U.S. will look towards them as leaders laying down the foundation for what could ultimately lead

to an Olympic appearance.”

The CMAS Freediving World Championships will kick-off Monday, October 1st and conclude on

Sunday, October 7th. The event will be streamed live for fans to follow along on the Olympic

Channel, as well as on the United States Freediving Federation Facebook page during each day

of the competition.
