KRISTIN KUBA
How long you’ve been freediving?
I started freediving a little over 3 years ago. I was more so into spearfishing at the time, but it wasn't until I took my first freediving course that line diving became this crazy obsession that I now have.
What, or who, inspired you to freedive?
I think the entire freediving community as a whole is what has been my biggest inspiration to dive. I’ve met some of the most amazing people from different parts of the world, and to see how incredibly humble and down to earth many of them are no matter the depths they’re diving is really inspiring.
Why do you freedive, and what has it done for you?
I think the biggest reasons why I freedive would have to be because it’s changed my life, my self-esteem, and who I am as a person overall. Growing up I was always felt extremely insecure and dealt with my issues in negative and unhealthy ways. When I discovered freediving, I felt like I started developing a real passion for something, and I was able to see another side of life and discover so many amazing things, especially about myself. With every dive I learn something new and those new discoveries help improve my life everyday.
What are your future freediving goals?
I hope to be lucky enough to continue traveling to new places around the world and freedive at new amazing sites.
What is your profession and other hobbies?
I am a licensed cosmetologist, currently working part time as a lash artist at the Kristin Wood lash studio in Oahu. I also really enjoy taking pictures and videos of my cat Hiro.
What advice about freediving would you like to offer readers?
Just like life, never take it too seriously and remember to have a lot of fun.
