Over the next months you will notice that the US Freediving Federation will be releasing more standards and guidelines under which the organization will operate. The goal is to ensure clarity for members on how to participate and eliminate as much ambiguity as possible. Along with this will come the appointment of a core group of hand selected individuals who will hold various positions key to the growth of the organization and sport.

One set of such guidelines is the selection process of the athletes for the US Team through the US Freediving Federation. There will be two US Teams, indoor and outdoor, who will be selected to participate in the current years World Championships as organized through CMAS International.

Here is the 2022/2023 US Team selection criteria:

The guidelines below have been established to provide clarity on eligibility and the selection process for the US National Team in either indoor or outdoor. The understated will be considered until such time that the US Freediving Federation (USFF) holds a national championship as part of the qualification process.

The athlete candidates will pass through and be approved by a USFF committee, and candidature will be based on the following components: 

  • Must have US nationality

  • Must have USFF Membership that is valid through to the end of the calendar year

  • Must have DAN Insurance (or equivalent) and provide proof that it is current through to the end of the calendar year

  • Scores obtained over the last (12) months from any officially regulated CMAS or AIDA competition:

    • Only white cards will be considered.

    • You are responsible for presenting official competition results upon request by the USFF (results publicly posted by the organizer or the signed competition report).

  • Competition Experience at the national or international level (in any context, i.e. judge, commentator, safety, medical, etc.) 

  • Team Spirit

The USFF has the right to make any adjustment it deems necessary and convenient to the benefit and goodwill of the sport of freediving and the community.

The USFF has the right to pull any athlete from the US National Team who does not display good sportsmanlike conduct, and/or participates in the encouragement and/or use of any performance enhancing drugs.
