Honaunau, Captain Cook, Hawai’i, 8/14/21 - 8/15/21
The beautiful and idyllic Honaunau Bay, home to the upcoming 2021 Hawai’i Cup in October, was the stage for back to back national records for two Masters this past weekend.
Masters Annabel Edwards and Jennifer Brant made the history books by establishing the first national records in the 50+ category for two disciplines each.
The event, overseen by the US Freediving Federation and governed by CMAS rules, was organized by Chris Funada. “The support from the local community was amazing as it was everyone coming together who made it possible for these two freediving mama’s of the Big Island of Hawai’i” says Chris Funada. “These two ladies give so much to the community, and with Annabel going into her 70th birthday, it was great for us all to be able to provide them a platform to achieve their goals” says Jeremy Stephan, President of the US Freediving Federation.
The official records, as recorded by USFF/CMAS Judge Brian Kispert and assistant Carlos Mazo, are as follows:
Annabel Edwards
Constant Weight No Fins (CNF): 38.1 meters
Free Immersion (FIM): 46.1 meters
Jennifer Brant
Constant Weight Bi Fins (CWTBF): 41.1 meters
Constant Weight Mono Fin (CWT MF): 47.3 meters
