KEY DIFFERENCES IN POOL RULES BETWEEN CMAS AND AIDA

AIDA and CMAS Rules Summary

Freediving rules are essential for fair competition. Athletes should know the rules and should conduct their performances so that all protocols are clearly visible to the Judges. Judges must know the rules, be consistent, and give the benefit of the doubt to the athlete. Video should be available for all arbitration.

Both CMAS and AIDA oversee competitions and have their own set of rules. In general the rules are very similar, but athletes are responsible for knowing the rules of the agency overseeing their performance. This document is not an official source for rules.

If you have previously performed in a pool competition under AIDA rules but now are entering CMAS pool competitions, this cheat sheet should help you understand the key differences.
