SEAN DUNN

How long you’ve been freediving?

I’ve been freediving since March of 2017.

What, or who, inspired you to freedive?

An old friend once suggested a scuba course. I thought that sounded pretty cool, but I realized that you could do the same while not breathing from a tank. Turns out, diving while not breathing is a thing.

Why do you freedive, and what has it done for you?

I can’t resist a good challenge. Seeing how deep I can go seems as good as any. It’s kind of fun to see what your body is capable of doing.

What are your future freediving goals?

1. Find a like minded freediver at more less the same level as me.

2. Enter into a 15-20 year rivalry where we make each other better and push each other’s limits.

3. Outperform them.

What is your profession and other hobbies?

I currently work as an instructor at Dahab Freedivers in Egypt but what my real dream is is to become a wizard. I also enjoy origami but I can only make a swan.

What advice about freediving would you like to offer readers?

There’s more than one way to skin a cat. There’s no magic breathe up, certain speed you must go, no perfect technique, or guaranteed wetsuit and fins that will give you a new personal best. Everyone is different. Find what works for you and develop that. Is it you, not the gear.
